Net-Defence marks 10 years of North East growth with anniversary celebration

Net-Defence has marked a decade in business with an anniversary celebration, bringing together customers, partners and colleagues to celebrate the company’s growth and look ahead to its next chapter.

The event marked ten years for the company, which has evolved from its telecommunications roots into a specialist provider of managed IT, cyber security, and business resilience services.

The anniversary provided an opportunity for the business to reflect on a decade of development, from expanding its technical capabilities and investing in its people to supporting organisations across the North East with the rapidly changing technology and cyber security landscape.

Debra Cairns, Managing Director at Net-Defence, said: “Ten years is a significant milestone for Net-Defence, and it was fantastic to be able to celebrate it with so many of the people who have been part of our journey, the evening was really about our customers, partners and our team.

“We’ve built the business around long-term relationships and technical knowledge, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without the trust and commitment of the people we’ve worked with over the last decade. We’re particularly proud of our North East roots and the role we’ve been able to play in supporting businesses across the region.”

Over the last decade, the role of technology within many organisations looked very different, cloud technology, remote working, digital transformation and increasingly connected supply chains have fundamentally changed how businesses operate, while cyber threats have become more sophisticated.

Net-Defence has evolved alongside those changes, developing from its telecommunications background into a broader managed IT and cyber security specialist. The business has invested in technical skills, automation and internal talent, with a strong emphasis on developing people within the organisation and building long-term capability.

Its customer base now spans sectors including professional services with a heavy focus on the legal sphere, financial services, manufacturing and engineering, where organisations are increasingly having to consider cyber security alongside wider operational and regulatory risks.

Debra added: “The biggest change we’ve seen is that technology and cyber security are no longer separate conversations from the wider business, they’re fundamental to how organisations operate. Digital systems underpin everything from customer relationships and supply chains through to finance and day-to-day operations, that makes resilience increasingly important.

“Our own journey has reflected that change, we’ve continued to develop our expertise so that we can support customers not just with their technology, but with the wider challenges and risks that come with being a digitally connected business.”

The company’s development has also received external recognition, including an industry honour from the Tyne and Wear Business Awards UK, and a recent shortlist place in the Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs).

The anniversary comes as Net-Defence continues to develop its offering and invest in the next stage of its growth. As part of that wider development, the company has also launched The Signal, a free online resource providing practical advice and insight around cyber security and wider business resilience.

The resource covers areas including compliance, regulation, supply chain risk and proactive defence, alongside practical guides, self-assessment tools, video content and events.

Debra continued: “The Signal is one example of how we’re looking to take what we’ve learned over the last ten years and make that knowledge more accessible. Businesses are dealing with an enormous amount of information and increasingly complex risks, so we wanted to create something practical that helps cut through some of that complexity.”

For Debra and the team the anniversary celebration marked the end of Net-Defence’s first decade, but it is also the beginning of its next chapter, Debra said: “It’s been an incredible ten years, but we’re just as focused on what comes next.

“We’ll continue investing in our people, developing our technical capabilities and supporting businesses across the North East as the threat landscape and technology continue to evolve – most importantly, we’re grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey so far.”
