MINE for breakfast? Sheepfolds Stables launches new daily breakfast venture

Sheepfolds Stables has officially announced the launch of MINE – the latest high-quality food venture to open at the hospitality hotspot. It will serve ‘traditional English’ breakfasts seven days a week.

Having identified demand and listened to customer feedback, MINE – situated within the venue’s Back of the Pit bar, is a joint ‘café-style’ venture between Sheepfolds Stables and Ryan McVay, owner of The Calabash Tree who already has a popular restaurant within the award-winning venue.

MINE will offer ‘breakfasts, baps and burgers’ from 9:30am – 3pm seven days a week and is set to be a go-to choice with customers, especially on weekends and match days where Sheepfolds Stables sees thousands of visitors coming through its gates before and after games.

A varied menu will include traditional breakfast favourites from a Full English and bacon, sausage and egg sandwiches to bubble and squeak. In the coming weeks, MINE will offer grab and go options for those looking for a quick lunch with vegetarian/vegan and kids’ options also available.

MINE will also complement the venue’s existing mix of independent food operators meaning that the site will now provide a ‘morning to night’ food offer from Monday to Sunday.

MINE customers can relax and dine-in using the inside seating or main outdoor courtyard area, or opt for grab-and-go where on-the-spot orders will be taken, cooked and served through the main hatch for take-away. After 3pm, the space will once again be used as a bar or private hire area.

Rick Marsden of Sheepfolds Stables commented: “This is another step forward for Sheepfolds Stables and one where we have listened to customers’ feedback and identified what people are looking for (and when).

“We are constantly developing Sheepfolds Stables to become the very best hospitality venue not just on Wearside but regionally too, and MINE, our newest venture opened in conjunction with Ryan, will enable us to do just that.”

Ryan McVay added: “MINE fully complements all the other businesses here and offers customers the very best traditional breakfasts every day from 9:30am onwards. Whether people are coming down for a bacon sandwich or we’re supplying local businesses with breakfast or lunch, the classics are all on the menu so we’re excited to be open.”

MINE has been named as a nod to the area’s industrial past, the nearby Wearmouth Colliery where the Stadium of Light now stands, and Sheepfolds Stables’ 141-year-old history as a home to working horses.
