An express direct service to the Sunderland International Airshow will run on Saturday July 28 and Sunday July 29, providing a direct link between Sunderland City Centre and the popular international event.
The 510 service, which stops at Fawcett Street, Wheatsheaf, Stadium of Light Metro, Seaburn Metro and the Airshow, will run every few minutes between 10am and 6pm.
To enable the event to be held safely, a number of roads in the area will be closed to all traffic from July 27 to 29 during set up and the event itself, and a number of temporary bus routes implemented.
On Friday July 27 from approx 12noon until approx 10pm, Sunderland Seafront (A183) will be closed between Whitburn Road (just south of Morrisons) and Roker Terrace to facilitate the set-up of the Airshow. As a result of the road closures, services diverted will include 18, E1, E2 and E6, with diversions and alternative bus stops in place.
As a consequence of these diversions and due to events being held on the Friday evening, buses will not be able to serve most of Roker Avenue or Harbour View, Roker Terrace, Park Parade and Whitburn Road. Diverted buses will observe all stops along the line of their diversionary routes.
On Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July, from approximately 9am until approximately 7pm, Sunderland Seafront will again be closed. Bus services and bus stops will be revised, affecting Services E1, E2 and E6 between South Shields and Sunderland.
On Sunday July 29, to accommodate the anticipated number of visitors to the Airshow, Services E1, E2 and E6 will all be increased to run every 20 minutes during the main daytime period. Routes affecting services 18 and 23 will also be modified throughout the duration of the event.
