A British Esports project to make the industry more inclusive and accessible has won an international award.
The Women in Esports initiative has been awarded the ‘Most Inclusive Esports Initiative’ at the recent Women in Games Global Awards, for its work in delivering events, interventions, programs and actions which are helping bring about real change in the esports industry.
Established in 2019 in response to the growing levels of toxicity and online abuse aimed at females and marginalised genders, alongside the need for further inclusivity in esports, the initiative has delivered numerous events, dedicated tournaments, community initiatives and educational content as it continues to help grow wider representation in the esports scene.
“Winning the Most Inclusive Esports Initiative is recognition of the work we do here at Women in Esports and I’m truly overwhelmed with gratitude and honoured to have our work recognised by Women in Games,” said Billie Purdie, Women in Esports Manager.
“I hope that what we strive for at Women in Esports can serve as inspiration to others, as we continue our efforts in making the esports industry more inclusive and accessible for everyone.”
Alice Leaman, Head of Operations at British Esports, said: “We’re extremely proud of the work our Women in Esports team has delivered through this initiative.
“Creating safer, more inclusive spaces for everyone, especially females and marginalised genders must continue, and we’re fully committed to growing this initiative, alongside other inclusivity and diversity projects.”
