Sunderland’s longest established taxi firm has introduced Artificial Intelligence technology in the form of a Messenger Chatbot to give customers another way to book a taxi.

Customers can now book a taxi entirely through Facebook Messenger, with options to track their taxi, book in advance and get an estimated fare.

The virtual chat assists customers by directly communicating with them to collect their booking details and dispatching a taxi.

They are the first in the area to offer this service, providing people in Sunderland and the surrounding areas another quick and simple automated booking method.

Trevor Hines, Managing Director at Station Taxis said: “Investing in this new innovative technology demonstrates our commitment to providing the best possible service for our customers.

Our research shows that people are spending more time on social media, so by offering this unique interactive experience within the Facebook platform, our aim is to expand our customer base.

You don’t need to be tech-savvy, its very simple and easy to use and allows you to be in control of your booking from start to finish … right within the Facebook Messenger app.”

The Chatbot has been developed by software development firm Autocab, who provide booking and dispatch software to taxi companies across the globe.

Jon Smith, CMO of Autocab said, “Station Taxis have always embraced new technology and are constantly on the lookout for innovative solutions to stay ahead of the competition – they were one of the first taxi firms in the country to offer a passenger app, and know that the next generation of customers will embrace booking a ride via Facebook Messenger.”
