Sunderland BID is encouraging people to spring into action to avoid missing out, as its popular virtual trail enters its final week.

Families across Sunderland have been enjoying the Spring Surprises Trail throughout April, with seven seasonal characters and scenes to find using the Sunderland Experience app.

And with the trail drawing to a close on 30 April, time is running out for people to enter a competition to win one of five £25 Sunderland Gift Cards.

The gift cards can be used on a range of products and services at more than 120 participating businesses in the city, including 2 Church Lane, Aphrodite, Ashbrooke Florists, Lush, Paticake Patisserie, Harrison and Brown and Designer Childrenswear.

To enter, trail-goers should snap a picture with one of their favourite characters and share it as a comment under the main competition post on the Sunderland Experience It Here Facebook page, with winners chosen randomly.

And along with searching for virtual lambs, flowers, chicks and even an appearance from the Easter Bunny, there are also a variety of special offers available from local businesses in the city.

Those on board include Thoburns Fresh Produce, Ibbitson’s Butchers, Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Flowers By Jennifer, Pop Candy, Beauty HQ, Harrison and Brown, The Sweet Petite, AndyMan UpCycling, Made by Sally J and Bou-Chique.

Sharon Appleby, Chief Executive at Sunderland BID, is delighted the trail has been so popular.

“After the success of our Halloween and Christmas trails, we thought spring was the perfect opportunity to provide another dose of social distanced fun for the whole family,” she said.

“With characters spread out all over the city, it’s a great way to get outside and active with the bonus of many of our local businesses getting involved to offer incentives too.

“There’s still time for people to take part and enter the competition before the trail wraps up and we are looking forward to seeing everyone’s pictures with the characters.”

The trail can only be accessed by downloading the free Sunderland Experience app. Anyone who has previously installed the app will be able to use it again for the duration of the trail.

Additional information and updates will also be available via the Sunderland Experience It Here Facebook page.
