A leading digital advertising firm has launched one of its most iconic screens to date.

Smart Outdoor, which is based in Sunderland, has installed a large digital out of home (OOH) screen at the site of the world famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Each year an 8,800 seat arena is erected in front of the city’s picturesque castle to host the event.

Once in place the Tattoo Arena dominates the city skyline, with the screen being visible from late May until September as visitors travel up the historic Royal Mile to visit the castle and attend Edinburgh Tattoo events.

The screen – which is in situ from this month – will be one of the largest digital advertising screens in Scotland and will become an annual fixture of the event.

Taking place from 3 – 26 August, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo includes 26 performances which are expected to attract 220,000 attendees, almost a third of those coming from overseas.

The arena will also be used for a range of spectacular concerts in July, with performers including Rod Stewart, The Who, Dermot Kennedy and The Lumineers.

Founded in 2019, Smart Outdoor is a specialist in digital OOH advertising, becoming early adopters of this new technology.
