An award-winning Sunderland student is Master of her own future after being named student of the year.

Sophie Wyatt, from Sunderland, is the recipient of this year’s Caterpillar Award, after her exceptional performance on the MSc Human Resources Management course at the University of Sunderland.

The Caterpillar award recognises significant achievement across a range of activities, including a good level of academic achievement, as well as having an excellent attitude towards the course.

Sophie, 22, says: “I really enjoyed my time at Sunderland.  Every lesson was made fun and engaging by my lecturers and fellow classmates.

“I was allowed freedom to focus on a subject that I am passionate about.

“Winning this award is a total shock to me but I can’t express how proud I am that I have achieved it.

“Human Resources Management was a totally new subject to me and I had doubts I would be able to do well.

“I am so grateful for the help and support that I have received from both my lecturers and my classmates throughout my time on the course.”

The Award was presented by Helen Hopper, Human Resources Manager at Caterpillar. Helen is herself a graduate of Human Resources Management at the University.

She said: “Good attitude, hard work and innovation along with a desire to succeed is a great recipe for any student to be successful in their career and lifelong ambitions.”
