On Thursday 1 November Sunderland BID held their fourth Clean Sweep initiative, which brings a task force of volunteers together for a day, to tackle cleaning and maintenance issues in the city centre.

With 70 volunteers from Nissan, Sun FM, Liebherr, Sunderland City Council, The Bridges, Gentoo, Richard Reed, Muckle LLP, The Works and Tall Ships Sale Makers they set about clearing the weeds and debris from behind the Holmeside Hoardings, so that it can be used as meanwhile space.

They also carried out litter picking at John Street, Frederick Street, Foyle Street, Athenaeum Street, St Thomas Street, High Street West, West Sunniside, Norfolk Street, Coronation Street, Nile Street, Villiers Street, Little Villiers Street, Sunderland Street, East Cross Street, William Street, Charles Street, High Street West, Blandford Street and Park Lane and deep cleaned the large bin shrouds across the city centre.

They were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and energy that the volunteers put into the tasks. This project is another example of how organisations can work together for the good of the city.

A huge thank you also to Greggs who provided lunch for all of the volunteers once again!
